These were mostly little tips you should be applying if you want to make the relationship work.In this post we want to look at what it is that will make a long distance relationship last.If you do decide to pursue a long distance relationship then there are only two ways that it’s going to work in the long term and this is what we’ll be looking at in this post.
- You need to see each other at least semi-regularly - Seeing each other once every three months just isn’t going to cut it. You need to make sure that you have some plans to make sure you can see each other at least once per month, at least once per two months at the absolute minimum. To go any longer than this means you risk a lot in terms of the overall intimacy of the relationship and the chances of failure increase significantly. As we have explored in another post, a lack of physical intimacy is a major problem with making a long distance relationship work and the only way to avoid this is by seeing each other semi-regularly.
- You need to have a plan to turn this into a short distance relationship again - You most likely started off in a short distance relationship and you need to make sure that you both come up with a plan for it to transition that way again. This is a big decision and commitment for both of you because it’s going to mean that one of you needs to change jobs in order to be geographically closer again.
These two factors are going to really determine if the long distance relationship has a hope of succeeding. You need to be able to have that intimacy that a short distance relationship entails, without it then you are setting yourself up for failure.
