High End Personal Matchmaking – A New Way Of Dating For Many?

With many people having more time on their hands during the Covid-19 Pandemic, self isolating, working from home or now in lockdown for a period, web traffic to online dating sites is running at much higher levels, as the public seeks more ways of meeting people safely from home, but we know it isn’t for everybody and privacy concerns, the quality of potential partners and bad experiences from online sites or apps in the past means that it is certainly not for everyone.

Since 2013 when the ‘Tainted Love’ episode of Panorama, was featured by the BBC, with them secretly filming the UK’s largest online dating company cheating the public through the use of false profiles, online dating has seriously dipped in terms of popularity and levels of trust.

This was then exacerbated by criticism from the Information Commission, the custodians of data protection in the UK in 2014, over the terms and conditions that the ‘big 4’ online companies were using – trying to control and own their clients data indefinitely and not giving clients access to their terms and conditions until after they had paid their membership fee, meant the end of online dating for many and companies like Matchmakers and our sister company Avenues Dating (for those 40, 50 and 60 plus) prospered and grew like never before. Although the traditional, face to face dating we our famous for is still one of the best kept secrets in dating for many.

We aren’t new, having been around since 2005 - before many online companies and apps. Avenues Dating, is one of the longest established dating companies in the UK, having been around since the mid 1990’s but our brand of traditional dating is probably not as well known to many, particularly younger people, until now. When many people are looking for a safer, more reliable, more cautious brand of dating than superficially swiping left or right on a dating app that forces us all to make judgements on someone’s suitability, just on the physical appearance of a person or how that person wishes to portray themselves to us, as photographs can often be years out of date.

Our proven method of bringing people together is a more cautious and meticulous one. We personally interview every prospective member, on Skype, Zoom or Microsoft Teams since the Coronavirus pandemic began, we check them out very carefully so that we are 100% sure that they are who they say they are, that they are resident at the address provided, that they aren’t living with a partner, that they haven’t been involved in crime and that they are solvent and are therefore joining for the right reasons.

At Matchmakers we target, younger professionals and aspiring professionals, aged 21 to 45. Whilst at Avenues we target, older people in their 40’s, 50’s and 60’s, in management, in business in academia and also the active retired – to cover the whole of the market.
