The quick answer I’m pleased to say is yes, they do! I guess the more relevant question is how and why a Matchmaking service works. Let’s look at this in more depth.

Why?

Matchmaking has been a tried and tested method throughout history in connecting people together, at times for religion reasons, class reasons, our own Royal family have done it throughout the centuries to form strong bonds with other countries. In later years it has slowly become a process that wasn’t used so much due to the emergence of online dating. People flocked to the exciting world of swiping left or right on their devices with what seemed like an endless stream of profiles to pick from. At its peak there were 16 million people using online dating as their source to find love, it has now declined to around 5 million, this leads to another relevant question – why the decline?

Why the decline?

As more people started to use online dating the dangers were never published – why would they as the profit these multi-million-pound companies were making was huge, far better to showcase a beautiful couple and hide the scary truths of online dating. At its height online dating had in excess of 16 million people in the UK alone, but as the real-life stories of assault, rape, fake profiles and cat fishing started to emerge and it was no surprise that people lost faith with the process, the number of online users is now only 5 million. The other scary statistic is 1 in 5 are fake profiles, that’s right 1 in 5 – so if you’ve spoken to more than 5 people online the likelihood is at least 1 of them would have been a fake profile. If you thought about the thousands of people that have been able to casually look at your profile with your personal details and photos uploaded and readily available to view, it really is no surprise at all that people are abandoning online dating and reverting to a professional Matchmaking service.

Why the resurgence

This is a great question and one I’ll go into more detail about. With over 11 million people becoming disenchanted with online dating and the huge sea change that Covid caused there was a dating wilderness that had formed. Instead of people meeting at work or in the pubs for after work drinks, they found themselves working from home with only online dating to reach out to and once they had exhausted this option people started looking for safe alternatives. The emergence of Matchmaking on TV programs such as ‘Married A t First Site’, ‘Love Island’, ‘Indian Matchmaker’ and ‘Celebs Go Dating’ has also changed people’s opinions of what Matchmaking is, raising its profile and giving people a greater understanding of what Matchmaking is. Now instead of being an old fashioned and outdated method, it is now seen as exciting and an intriguing way to meet someone.

Safety

The other huge benefit to a using a credible Matchmaking company is the safety aspect, this should always be a question you ask before progressing. A credible Matchmaking company should be carrying out security checks such as, residency, solvency, bankruptcy and criminal activity including fraud before becoming a member. For me this is vital, confidentiality, the fact your profile will never appear online along with having your personal Matchmaker guiding through your dating journey is incredibly important, but being able to have that in a safe environment with the knowledge that there are no fake profiles, fraud and all the other horrors that accompany online dating is by far the most important thing – it should be a fundamental aspect that you are being protected and safeguarded against these perils.

Success

If you do decide to take the plunge and invest in a professional Matchmaking service, then here’s a piece of further advice so you get the very most out of your service:

Try to keep an open mind, don’t restrict your choices by height or other superficial attributes, remember what you’ve been looking for up to now hasn’t worked, and finally, love comes from the most unusual places, and often having different interests is incredibly healthy. Allow yourself to be open and to trust your Matchmaker - remember that it’s their specialty, and their knowledge and passion to help you find love is their driving force. If you do this, then you will have a safe and successful Matchmaking experience.

I hope that’s answered a question that I do get asked a lot and helps you on your journey to finding love.
